When the ancient Snake Clan returns to drain the world of color and joy, the Rainbow begins to call. Guided by Cal, a mysterious basement bartender with a knightly past, and Biscuit, a scruffy dog who sees what humans cannot, Sully and Mags are pulled into a secret war older than the town itself.
From the glowing Red Arch of courage to the distant promise of wisdom beyond the Violet light, the children must recover the lost Talismans before the Balor of the Blight extinguishes the Vale forever.

Sully Sullivan and Mags O’Malley are just trying to survive eighth grade at their tiny parochial school in St. Patrick, Missouri. Between Sister Bernadette’s pop quizzes and their parents’ chores, life in 1965 is pretty ordinary—until the summer storm that changes everything.
When a rainbow touches down right in their village, the two friends chase it on their Schwinn bikes to the old Murphy homestead. There, buried in the foundation, they find a stone that glows with impossible light. And when Sully touches it, he sees something no eighth-grader should see: another world, green and glowing and alive, waiting just beyond the veil.
But Sully and Mags aren’t the only ones who noticed the rainbow.
Men in grey suits are asking questions. Shadows are moving where shadows shouldn’t be. And Cal, the mysterious bartender who tells the tallest tales in three counties, suddenly isn’t laughing anymore. He knows what the stone is. He knows what it means. And he knows the children are in terrible danger.
